Interesting NPD sales numbers...

This is a major shock, and I have been trying to understand how this worked out.
Basically one of the titles on the list is not known to carry a very high "Brick and Mortar" awareness...

Anyways, the latest charts have showed up, and Kotaku has posted the top 10...

Most are predictable...BUT...

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
2. Left 4 Dead
3. Call Of Duty: World At War
4. The Sims 2 Mansion & Garden Stuff
5. EverQuest II: The Shadow Odyssey
6. Spore
7. Fallout 3
8. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
9. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Collectors Ed
10. The Sims 2 Apartment Life

Yet, no LOTRO!

..........................how interesting.

Chronicles of Spellborn - Story continues to change..

First, an explanation for some who seem to not understand the TCoS situation (certain commenter's are not aware of how this is working...)

Acclaim has gained the rights to place the game on their servers. This is all the company is doing.
The game itself is set to release on Dec. 5th (with the Germans already playing since November 27th). The over seas markets will be playing a "full release" coded game.

Basically the Closed Beta that will be taking place in the US, UK, AU, etc...(which was originally scheduled for the 27th of November) is using released code. There is not a noted NDA at this point according to the Acclaim site. And most anyone who signs up gets instant access to the game..

Today, more information has been posted. And these posts are really great and informative...
This was originally the post used for the November 27th delay..

"Hey guys theres been a lot of questions flying around about when we are launching our CB since the EU Free2Play client got delayed.

I am confirming with you now, that Acclaim's CB launch has also been delayed to December 5th. The reason for this is that we use the Free2Play client. As found here the release of the Free2Play client has been delayed, thus our launch has been delayed.

Very sorry for this guys, however I thought you should know, even though the delay was completely out of our hands.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to reply to this and either myself, Phew or Historian will be more than happy to answer.

*Edit - As per Historian's new topic, the above date of December 5th is no long applicable. At the time of this post originally, the date and information was accurate, however this has since changed."

If you follow the link, you will notice a rather sizable message. But, this one line stands out..

"As you know there have been some delays and at the moment we don't have a set time for our Closed Beta launch. Yeah that isn't fun to hear, but it means that the game you do get to beta test won't be one that was rushed out the door. That said you will be playing 5 seconds after the actual developer of the game releases the code to us. The servers are ready. Acclaim is ready. Are you ready? "

Well...hooray. Great stuff.

So, a day before CB launch, another cryptic note..

But, it is interesting to note that the developer is dropping the ball here...yet, the EU version is going strong.

This should be interesting.

Chronicles of Spellborn - 3 days to go...no invites

I am not sure what to make of a company like Acclaim.

How does the success of this MMO even measure up to a company who cannot for the life of them put together a Closed Beta properly.
Will this game even garner any subscribers based on the company running the servers.

Today a forum post from one of the CM's just blatantly states..

"No invites have gone out."

Then it was noted that if you HAD an account already with Acclaim, you were golden for CB invites. Come to find out that my account (and many others) were pending.
If you sign up again, it then sets you to active for the CB.
In so many words, do not assume you may get an invite as Acclaim cannot even decide who it's current customers are or are not.

Stupid incompetence.

Anyways, the launch date was to be DEC. 5th, but really, that could change one hour before launch, so try not to get the hopes up too much.

As I find out more, I will post it here...

Good luck TCoS, with Acclaim behind you...you will need it.

Age of Conan - First server merges arrive

As noted on the forums by Famine, the changes are starting this week for the server merges.

They will be starting with the small servers it seems. Two low populated servers will be merged together. As well, this merger calls for complete shutdown of access for all players for all servers.
So, all US servers will be offline for the two servers being merged.

The first out of the gate are the US servers ‘Bloodspire’ and ‘Hyperborea’. It has even been noted to be an "extended" downtime.
Finally a free transfer will take place if anyone is not happy with the final server selection from these servers only.
I see this option being used heavily.

The oddest part of this notice is the news of opening "fresh" servers.

"Also after the merges are complete we will be opening up new ‘fresh start’ servers in both the US and EU territories. One each for PVE and PVP rulesets. Transfer will not be allowed to these servers after the merges. These new servers are designed to allow players to start afresh in a totally new environment should they wish to do so and forge a new community instead of joining one of the newly merged ones."

I do not comprehend the reasoning of this last notice, as the reason we have server merges is due to lower populations on some servers, so why create new servers to be empty of players?

Anyways, as more news comes of this, I will update this post..

Cheers.

Tabula Rasa - Crafting that I like

How odd.

I messed around with the crafting system yesterday. I just wanted to note that what we have here is actually a fun and simple crafting game.

You have several steps to working with crafting.

You either can break down junk equipment for items called mimeomechs.
You can rip modules off weapons to reuse (example, higher damage mods or modifiers for attributes)
You can re-add modules to weapons and armor.

You need the mimeomechs to rip the modules or add them again. Each weapon and armor piece has a possible 4 slots for upgrades. You can pull one upgrade and add a new one in it's place, etc.
If an item has 2 slots filled, you can add 2 more modules.

Total control over how you wish your items to be.

So, if I am focused say on more armor and regen of health...no prob. I can rip what I need off lower grade equipment and add it to new equipment.

This is all I know so far. According to the TR wiki I can also eventually fabricate items.

I do not need to spend money on points for crafting or get my skill up, etc. It just works right out of the box. Reminds me of being very Diablo in the sense of adding and removing items.

I would like to see another game use this craft system.

Quite fun, and easy without taking my game time away. Finally a craft system I like, and it is going away...

So sad.

The Witcher - And now EVERYONE can play

The big news today, and still has me all giddy inside, has been revealed.

The Witcher is now coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Following the same format as they did for the Enhanced Edition, the developers are taking the original story, enhancing the gameplay, adding new controller mechanics (including Sixaxxis), new models, new creatures and new NPC's....aw hell, even a new enhanced engine and basically will follow the original quest lines and develop it specifically for the consoles.

Not much other info is available, but basically this is major. One of the best RPG's of the last year, with a storyline that allows for alternating decisions that are not felt until later, with no decision being good OR evil, this game will rock. I am already looking at following the alternate storylines in my head...lol.

As more news comes forth, I will post. There is no doubt that this will be a must buy for 2009. What a great way to make a game also. Use what you have, fix it, enhance it, upgrade it, make it a killer title for consoles.

Did I mention EXCITEMENT...

Lost Odyssey - And we're BACK!

Starting Saturday, the family sat down in the living room and played several hours of Lost Odyssey.
The game had been put on the back burner when I signed back up for AoC with the wife and then Fable 2 hit shelves and took priority.
But, I loaded it back up, and we sat back and watched the game take place.

It is interesting in that the wife enjoys the strategies, and we work out ways to approach the fights, which seems to be more complex than Final Fantasy (we have died many a time so far).
The son loves that the game looks cool, and he enjoys the anime based heroes.

It is also like watching a movie at times, so overall it is a good "family on the couch" game with popcorn and snacks for a couple of hours.

A great game, and should be interesting to see how the story proceeds.
