RPG of the YEAR?

This list is mildly shocking. Take a gander. This is posted every year at Voodoo Extreme.
Last year it was the Witcher if I am not mistaken...
This year is pretty easy for the winner. What I wish to share is the #2 here, THAT is the shock..

Who woulda thunk it?

RPG of the Year?

Fallout 3 - 2116
30.60%
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures - 1779
25.73%
Mass Effect (PC) - 886
12.81%
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - 874
12.64%
The Witcher Enhanced Edition - 664
9.60%
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - 302
4.37%
Fable II - 293
4.24%

(Now waits for the fevered explanations of those who are also flabbergasted and why this happened....)

I thought Mass Effect came out in 2007? even for the PC. Of course I dont remember the actual date so maybe that was XBOX.

Looks like a lot of AoC players read VE, that's all I can say. Apparently 1779 people still playing the game saw a forum post to go jack up the votes. Happens a lot

Good answer. The fact that many people are even reading those forums then is a good sign in my opinion.
Glad they took it upon themselves to push the game up.
I remember last year when LOTRO did this also.
Of course...the Witcher won that time.

I'd also like to vote for "cruel joke." :)

@Bildo
Well, I do agree somewhat...I mean, why would WAR be voted higher than Fable 2 for best RPG...ridiculous.

Yes, looks like a weird ranking. I'd never heard of The Voodoo Extreme forums so.... meh.

There's often forum threads on flagging MMO's sites telling people about votes for top MMO and how everyone has to go there and keep the game alive. I remember people doing it for hellgate london.

But IGN sucks ass...

Yes, Mass Effect and Witcher were *both* 2007 titles. Oh, sure they listed the "Enhanced" Witcher but let's be honest -- that was essentially a patch, not a full new game.

I call bullshit on IGN even using those two. Have I mentioned that IGN sucks ass?

Why even put an MMORPG in the same category as a single-player RPG? Are we really going to say that Witcher, World of Warcraft, and oh, say any run of the mill Final Fantasy clone JRPG are anything alike whatsoever?

Oh and if I haven't said this recently, IGN sucks ass...

On a more serious note, any truth to the rumor that it was one (or a few) rabid AoC fanbois deleting cookies so they could repeatedly spam-vote for it in that poll?

Never trust ANY online poll.

@Scott
Can you point me to a link to the rumor?
I have not read anything like that.
But, hey, one rumor deserves another...right?

@Scott

NVM.
I found the notation on the Ve3D site, but the admin noted that any duplicate votes have been erased...so this result is just the amount of players who felt the need to vote for their game.
This was also posted on the WoW forums and the Witcher forums...just like Turbine did last year, where the Witcher won anyways, with LOTRO placing fourth I believe.
But, LOTRO did win best MMO and actually beat WoW in 2007...
Yea...nothing like ballot stuffing, eh?

several of those games don't even belong on that list. WoW, Conan, and Warhammer online have no "actual" Roleplaying elements. Sure they may have "Roleplay" servers, but those are generally teenagers cybering.

I guess Fallout3 makes sense, though I was kinda letdown a bit with the games ending and main story line.

Oh well.
