World of Warcraft - Wrath of the Lich King

So, who expects this to sell 4 times as many copies or even more than Burning Crusade?

What does the expansion really offer? New Class? New Zone? Update Graphics? Is there more?

How come I have to buy Burning Crusade to play this expansion?

Will there be an All-in-One package for all 3 titles for one 49 or 59 buck price point?

Speculate below.

You have to have BC to get 60-70

I understand this. BUT...
Why not offer BC and the original at a reduced rate THEN offer this at it's higher price.
Or offer a BC/Wrath set.

This is just one issue...I see quite a few more here for this money grubbing company.
But, Wrath looks to offer a pittance for the price is all.

I think it would be great if they offered a deal like Rise of Kunark (is that the right one?) did for EQ2. Buy the box, get all previous expansion content for free.

But Blizzard knows they don't need to, which is why they won't.

Personally, I'm not sure I'll ever really play WoW again. I'm a fan of the DIKU MMOG still, don't get me wrong... but I really do think that WAR's RvR is better than WoW's PvE treadmill. So if as a fan of that style of game, I have to choose... I'll take the one that makes things interesting in a broader context than just repeating the same dungeon five-hundred times.

At risk of sounding like a slobbering fanboy, here I go...

To answer your questions:

Because WoW scales vertically, not horizontally. All of the WotLK is level 70-80.

Most likely eventually. I would guess in 6 months, the price of WotLK standalone will cost about $20-$30 and a 3-in-one package will be $40-$50.

It is like one thing I have been saying for a while. When Blizzard first came on the scene with WoW, while it was a raging success, they had no idea what they were doing with an MMO. You can tell this by the original game's lack of narative and lack of focus (Who remembers cloth armor with strength and agility on it). Itemization was poor and in endgame classes got pigeonholed.

The Burning Crusade, in my opinion, was lacking innovation because it was the first expansion Blizzard had does and while they had new focus, they didn't know how to properly handle expanding the game content to that degree. A lot of things were fixed, but many mistakes were repeated. The unbalance of rewarding PvP and PvE, unforgiving attunements, and still a very exclusive endgame.

Everything I have seen in the WotLK beta has fixed any complaint I have had in the past.
- on the PvP front, the new arenas, the new battleground, and Wintergrasp with use of seige weapons is endless fun.
- every spec of every class is now equally viable in a raid environment.
- attunements removed (for the most part). The initial raid, Naxxramas requires no attunement and the second doesn't for anyone wants to just enter, but just one person in the raid needs a key from a late Naxxramas boss to engage the second raid boss. One out of 25 people need the attunement? Easy
- 10/25 man versions of every raid. Anyone is able to run 10mans so now anyone can see all the game's content.
- world phasing and in game movies make the lore and story in this game completely blow away anything we've seen in vanilla WoW and BC

There are a lot of different things this expansion offers. Even for those who have moved on, I'd still suggest them coming back to give it a try, even if it is just to level from 70-80 to experience it. The journey you go on in those levels is worth it in itself.

That feels like a sale dominic(smile)
You feel they have learned from their past and are planning something more visceral for this release?
I hope you are right as this could be their last option.
They may not hurt from this, but will it be helpful?

As to price...WoTLK is 40 bucks, which seems slightly steep for what is on offer.
And the worst part? People WILL pay for it.
For 40 bucks when EQ2 released an expansion, they included all previous expansions as well.
The product may not be such a big seller, but it is not like Blizzard is hurting for money like SOE's products are.
Why charge such an exorbitant amount for such a brief addon?
It boggles the mind...especially when they make SO much money otherwise.
It feels like they are being greedy.

But, I will digress until I see the release package first. I still feel it is overcharging.

Anyone else get this feeling?

World of Warcraft Battlechest and at $36.99 it's a pretty decent price.
