Runes of Magic - Stress Test impressions

Even though I am on MMO break, this weekend was a quick stress test of Runes of Magic.

Runes of Magic is basically a REAL WoW clone.

No, I mean, don't look at the models, but look at everything else, and it is hard to not see WoW.

Buildings, landscapes are even more WoW-like than WAR.

Besides some issues with sound, the models for characters were interesting, the game ran well, and the visual quality of the UI is 100% WoW.

It does have a few uniques to set it apart.

More control of the character visual. More faces, hairstyles and you can even change the thickness of legs, chest or breast size. Think Emeril for character creation (Kick it up a notch!)

Housing is available from the start.

Dual Classing at level 10.

It seems they were huge fans of WoW and just put in the things THEY felt were missing. Created their own background, and made RoM!.

If you play WoW and enjoy it, there is no reason NOT to try this on release. It sure does work on the pocket book.

FREE~!

Head to the website, get signed up, and you should be accepted in their beta (the word is EVERYONE who signs up eventually gets in..)

Cheers

I read an interview where the developers said pretty much just that.

I think this is a beta I will sign up for.

The characters are more Anime than Western influence...yet, I think it worked well within the confines of the graphics engine.
But, this game has Full Shadows that WoW does not have (yet) and overall just felt 100% WoW.

Another thing of note is it has a huge European and Asian audience, so German, Spanish, etc..was being used in Global Chat, which was a pain.
And some of the translations are off. My 3rd quest had grammatical errors.
But, I have been told I am grammatically incorrect at times, so it does not hurt when the word FREE is used to describe the game.

Cheers

Played a bit in the stress test also. Have not played WoW for almost 3 years now, so my memory might be failing a bit on comparisions. Might be the animations and/or maybe the sound; but it did not quite feel a WOW-factor. The environment certainly has its similarities in the art style though.
